Rangers, Lobi, Nasarawa, Akwa through to Fed cup semis

Rangers International of Enugu have advanced to the semi-final of this year’s Federation Cup after a 3-0 spanking of El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in one of the quarter-final matches played yesterday.

 

Odah Onorode was the hero of the Enugu side with a brace in the 60th and 68th minutes, while Osas Okoro took the match beyond the Maiduguri side with a goal in the 44th minute of the decided at the FIFA Goal Project training ground in Abuja.

 

Onorode told Daily Trust after the match that he was happy to have contributed positively to the club advanced to the semi-finals after over two decades attempt.

 

He said what is prime in their mind is to win the trophy for the good people of Enugu state and supporters of the club.

 

Also speaking, El-Kanemi Warriors Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Zanna said he is disappointed with the performance of his team as they did not play up to expectation.

 

He said though Rangers is not a push over team in the country, the result was not the best his team could have gotten if the players had improved in their game.

 

In other centres, Lobi Stars of Makurdi stopped giants killers B.J Brothers from Benin 2-1 in Lokoja, Nasarawa United piped FC IfeanyiUbah 1-0 in Ilorin while Akwa United defeated Niger Tornadoes Feeder team 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time to book their spot in the semi-finals

    

In the semi-final pairings, Lobi Stars will take on Enugu Rangers while Nasarawa United will slug it out with Akwa United.

 

In the women’s event, champions Rivers Angels were eliminated by Confluence Queens in an interesting contest. The Kogi Queens edged the game 2-1, and will now tackle Bayelsa Queens, 2-0 winners over Edo Queens in the semi finals.

 

Also through to the semi finals are Nasarawa Amazons, who whipped Osun Babes 3-1, and Sunshine Queens, who defeated FC Robo 2-0 in Oleh.
